Remember To Be Thankful !

As Thanksgiving Day draws closer and the schoolwork stops for a second, I believe it is a time of reflection for many people. In many homes, we are supposed to discuss what they were thankful for on Thanksgiving, and remember who gave us these blessings.
Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends, and a relaxing moment to enjoy the little things in life. What does Thanksgiving mean for you? For me, it’s the warm turkey, dressing, gravy, and most importantly, the sweet pecan pie (How do you pronounce that?). But we all know that it’s more than that. It’s the things God has blessed us with that make us who we are today. It’s God’s gifts that he has bestowed upon us that have allowed us to preserve through the struggles we have faced.  Be grateful for the blessings that the Lord has given you, and humble yourself as you feast on the delicious foods. Never take for granted the moments you have this week. It’s a blessing!
Safe travels to all and God bless!

A Relational Note on Relationships by Dylan

Men of McKinzie,

I had my first real girlfriend when I was in the sixth grade. We “dated” for a few weeks and then one day I decided I didn’t want to be in a relationship. So being the immature sixth grader, I had one my friends go and break up with her. Little did I know that it was April Fools Day… Needless to say I found out really early in my academic journey that relationships matter.

Whether you and a special someone are starting a romance, or you and your best group of dudes have a “bromance”, relationships are an integral part of everyday life. You are constantly relating with others positively or negatively. For some it is the best thing in the world. For others it takes a lot out of them (I would be under this category). Now, don’t get me wrong, I love relationships, but I realize that I deal with them a certain way. Because of this I have come to the following conclusions.

Relationships take work. There is no way around it. If you want something to be fruitful, you must be willing to put some effort into it. School is this way, farming is this way, and of course, so are relationships. If you are interested in a young lady, well talk to her. If you want to be apart of a solid group of guys, hang around solid guys that you look up to. On a daily basis we make conscious choices as to how we will handle relationships. Will we talk more, or listen. Will we lead, or will we follow. Will we put ourselves second, or make ourselves the priority. I encourage you to think about this before you start your day. Make a conscious choice to yield fruitful relationships.

There is a popular phrase in the business world that states, “It isn’t what you know, but rather whom you know.” Now don’t get me wrong. Please go to class. Good grades are a fantastic stepping-stone to grand opportunities. Still, I’m not here to talk about grades, I’m here to talk about relationships. You spend a vast majority of your day relating with others. If you look at it that way, it is clear that every moment with someone is an opportunity. Are you going to work at the relationship or are you go to let it remain stagnant? Hopefully you can think about that as you finish up this semester.
